Introduction to Married Trusts

Married Trust
News Jun 23, 2022

Don’t think that just because you’re married you don’t need trust. The last thing you want to do after your loved one passes is end up in court. Imagine rather than spending time grieving the loss of your loved one, you have to go argue with a judge in probate court. No one wants that.

If I had to analogize probate court to something, it would have to be that leak in your house. You hire a plumber to fix it, turn your back, they’re gone, and you release a sigh of relief. You look back realizing the only thing the plumber did was put some tape over it. This might fix the issue for him, but you’re right back where you started.

A trust is designed to be insurance and assurance that that doesn’t happen. Some of the basic types of trusts that we use, particularly for married couples, they are known as ABC trusts. They’re aptly named as when you think ABC the first thing that comes to mind is simplicity. Only later do you realize that there are over 7,000 languages each with different variations and different letters with similar representations.

Our goal here at NM Law is to ensure that we have the right trust for you. Don’t think that merely because you have a trust that it needs to be overly complicated. On the contrary, trusts are meant to simplify everything to make sure that you don’t have any issues once your loved one passes. Or if you are incapacitated, to make sure all of your assets can be handled properly.

We seek to make sure that you have comfort and understanding of some of these complex structures so that when you need it your money will be there. It will be there for your kids. It’s not going to be lining the pockets of the government. Everything will be for your family. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out to us. Thank you.
